1. Consider and Choose

Dennis Shulman is presently writing a second book, Walking with Moses: A Weekly Guided Tour of the First Five Books of the Bible (to be published in 2004). Each chapter will include a summary of, and commentary on the week's biblical reading, written for the open-minded Jew, Christian, Muslim and agnostic who is interested in what the ancient text can teach us today about ourselves and our lives.

This article is Week 46 of Shulman's new book. It is meant to be read during this period immediately preceding the Jewish High Holidays.

2. Clinical Psychoanalysis as Midrash

This is a brief excerpt from a journal article that will be published next year. In it, Shulman argues that the way that the psychoanalyst listens to his/her patient, and the way that the rabbi scrutinizes the biblical text is essentially identical.
